Owkin is an AI biotechnology company that uses federated learning, a decentralized machine learning technique, to collect and compile insights from global medical research. It trains its AI models on data from 30 academic hospitals while preserving patient privacy. Owkin’s deep learning models have developed improved predictions for cancer patient outcomes and facilitated the creation of more effective drugs for treatment. CEO Thomas Clozel, who was trained as an oncologist in Paris and New York, cofounded the company in 2016. He has raised $304 million, with a June 2022 funding round valuing the company at more than $1 billion.
